Whitchurch Charity Shop Finds

I haven't had time to bargain hunt in charity shops for a while since I started working 6 days a week but I had a whole week off for Easter and I took the chance to have a little snoop around the shops in Whitchurch.
I was looking for things to furnish my room with when I move in to my new house but I ended up buying lots of kitchenware, I can't resist it!

I got the set of 6 glasses for £2. They are so tacky, I love them!

I managed to find something for my room, this print was only 25p and it's going to go on my frame collage wall. I'm going to try and find some more frames and paint them and I might even try and create a little art to put in them.

How could I leave this little beauty there? There were so many lovey tea cups and full tea sets but my collection is pretty big now and I don't need too many more.

Whitchurch in Cardiff is a ruthless place to go bargain hunting, I saw a leather satchel in one shop, went to get some money to pay for it and by the time I got back someone else had nabbed it!! If you are ever in Cardiff you should pop in to Whitchurch, I always find something good in the shops there. It has a lovely high street.

My blue nails were starting to look a little shabby but I didn't have time to paint them again so I just put some of the Barry M Nail Effects on top to refresh them.
Have you picked up any bargains recently? do you love a good rummage in a jumble sale and charity shop?

'Peacocks by Design' dress

Hello! I had a bit of a break over the Easter period from work and technology and I loved it! It's nice to get away from it all sometimes and I feel thorougly relaxed. I only work term time in the uni library so I will be working in the public libraries this week which I haven't done for ages. I can't wait to be surrounded by exciting books rather than text books.

I popped into Whitchurch today to do a little charity shopping and to meet the lovely ladies who run the Cancer Research Wales shop there. I'm going to be writing for their blog/website which is having a relaunch, it's  all rather exciting. I will mention their fab shop and show you all my great charity shop finds in a later post.

This is what I wore for my afternoon out-

Dress: Peacocks by Design
Cardigan: Primark
Bag: Topshop
Shoes: River Island

I'm really happy with my Peacocks by Design dress, it feel much higher quality than Peacocks normal range, it fits nicely and it moves really well. It's a very 'swishy' dress, the fabric feels nice and heavy and all the rest of the new range were equally as nice too. It was £35 which I think is a great price because something in Topshop or Next would probably be about £50. The lovely Vicki at Magpie Girl styled one of the Peacocks dresses for the  and she looks fab, I'm thinking of getting that dress for a wedding in the summer.
Have you got anything from the new Peacocks collection? Did you all have a nice Easter?

Day-dreaming of One of the Pillars of Hercules

As you might be able to tell, I really quite like travelling when I can. Though the next year is looking to be a busy one, I have had the chance to daydream a bit. With so many great places to visit across Europe alone, at least there is no shortage of possible stops! And one of the pillars of Hercules might just be one of these.

The place I'm talking about is Gibraltar, who is also known as one of the pillars of Hercules from its very early history. I realise it's not quite the same as the places I've visited before, like the national trust Oast House I visited in February, but I really think that Gibraltar could be a really rewarding visit at some point in the future. For example, if you've seen their Highest Point (not higher than 425 meters) it's a really stunning view. And it actually has its own little piece of quite interesting history, as you can also find O'Hara's Battery, which is an artillery fortification built in 1890. The fun for us, and unfortunate for O'Hara, is that it quickly adapted the name “O'Hara's Folly” as from a military strategic point of view it soon proved almost useless.

Though, if I was there I would probably stop by the Moorish Castle, what is more tempting is definitely to see the stunning natural phenomenon that has been dubbed St. Michael's Cave. I mean, those kind of cave structures that creates halls and compartments that almost seem designed is in itself quite amazing. That it is tied to various legends and stories doesn't calm the intrigue either.

Gibraltar isn't the biggest place either, which can be a good and bad thing really, depending on what you like. Though I'm thinking that if you're staying for a few days, that it is small can be nice. It's just about a 10 minute drive from the St. Michael's Cave to the Main Street (or a nice 1 hour hike), where you can really take in the nice weather over a chilled drink, maybe a wine or two?

The really rather interesting thing about small places like this is that they have so many different aspects to their character within such a limited area. Like I mentioned, St. Michaels' is rather centre of the island, and earlier this month, it really was just a short trip down to the bay where LadyLucks hosted their Roulette Masters grand final which started off online and then the final was live. That a roulette tournament starts off online, and then transcends into its final stages in a physical location is itself something new. And almost as brilliant as being able to walk from a beautiful naturally created hall to the man-made charming restaurants with a view of the sea-side.

All in all, it's mostly day dreaming for now. After all, there's plenty of locations that are closer that deserve a proper visit too. But maybe one day a trip just south of Spain could be a thing to do, considering its remarkably varied sources of veritable pass-times ranging from hiking, to roulette, to the many various Churches and Cathedrals (both man-made and not)!

At any rate, if it happened that this sparked an unknown desire for you to visit Gibraltar, I suggest visiting this site as it offers plenty of information.

Day Off Casual

I am NOT wearing a dress! I don't always wear floral dresses, and here's proof. I had a day off today and I had a lovely day in the Garden hanging out with my family. I don't get much chance to relax so when I have a day off I like to wear something comfy and go light on the make up.  I've got five days off over Easter, I have a birthday to go to and I also plan on catching up on my sleep. I can't wait!

T shirt: Peacocks
Shoes: Peacocks
Necklace: Disney Couture ASOS
Leggings: ASOS
Skirt: ASOS
Hairclip: Primark

Sookie had a little operation and she really didn't like me yesterday...
But she's feeling a little better now :)
What do you wear on your day off? What are your bank holiday plans?

Spring Florals

The weather is still lovely in south Wales so I decided to wear some lovely bright florals to work yesterday. I felt a little over dressed but most of my clothes are black and they aren't really appropriate for this time of year.
I don't wear many short cardis but now I've lost 21 lbs I'm feeling a little more confident and I feel like I don't need to wear long cardis to cover up. Off to my weigh in at half 10 so wish me luck! If I lose another 21 lbs I might even buy some shorts or trousers, I know, it's madness!! I haven't worn trousers since the age of 17.
,

Dress: Peacocks
Cardigan: Primark
Belt: New Look
Necklace: gift

I popped in to Primark whilst waiting for a friend to arrive in Cardiff to go for drinks and I bought loads of cheap accessories, including this hair clip which was only £1! I also go some hair bands and pretty little brooches. I'm allergic to cheapy jewellery so I tend to wear brooches and hair clips because they don't come in to contact with my skin. It can be such a shame because places like Topshop have great costume jewellery and I just can't wear it :(

I have been clearing out the attic ready for the big move and I found a big box of handbags that I had forgotten all about and this one was in there. It looks a little but like a camera case and  it went perfectly with my outfit. I also found a bright yellow bag from Topshop in the attic which I will be using over the summer now I have rediscovered it.

Another bargain just like my Primark flower, this polish was only £1 on e.l.f, it doesn't have the greatest staying power but it is a very pretty shade. I think I might get a lilac from Models Own because I love this shade so much but don't have the time to paint my nails so often and I know Models Own lasts much longer.
I've been buying lots of home magazines for some inspiration and Your Home had a feature about a bedroom using blue and white just like I want and listed where I could get a lot of the things I needed which is great. My mam and I are having a few disagreements on decorating, I like more traditional things and my mam prefers modern decor, I will wear her down!

I'm going to have a meeting with some people from Cancer Research Wales tomorrow about writing for their website and I'm going to check out their new bridal boutique charity shop in Whitchurch which is all very exciting. Sookie has gone in to the vets to get spayed today, I wanted to stay with her but you are not allowed, my poor little girl! I'm sure she will be fine but I will be thiinking about her the whole time I'm in work.
Hope you are all having a lovely sunny week!

Home Sweet Home

I've already mentioned that I sold my lovely house but this week me and my Mam found a new one. We had to give my dad half of the money from the sale of the house so we weren't left with much money to buy a new one.
I have lived in this house since I was 11 years old and have a lot of memories attached to that place. I lived there through school, college and moved out for a while when I was at uni. Had my 18th and 21st birthday parties there and fell in and out of love whilst being an inhabitant.

My new house smells like old people, has a green bathroom suite and brown carpets. But it has a lovely garden, nice sized bedrooms, fab wooden floor and it's next to a beautiful church!
I'm hoping that after some painting, ripping up carpets and replacing the hideous bathroom I will have a lovely new home.

I NEED YOUR HELP! Do you know any great places where I can buy some lovely things for my bedroom? Do you know any inspirational blogs about interiors or craft/diy? I don't really like anything modern and I'm going for mostly white with a little blue and pink theme. I'm going to keep it light and fresh because the house is old and some parts are a little dark.
I really want to create one of those walls with lots of frames and photos on like this-

I'm getting rather excited about decorating and getting a little carried away because the house doesn't even have a kitchen, so my room will have to wait for a while!

Topshop Make Up

I don't really shop in Topshop, I think I've only been in there twice since I stopped working there. The clothes don't fit me and the prices are crazy, since when was £60 for a dress normal? The staff are on minimum wage and the owner doesn't pay his taxes so the prices seem a little extortionate to me...

I had read good things online about the make up range so I popped in to have a little snoop and I was very suprised by what I found. The Cardiff store has a great selection of make up and I was suprised at the range of products available. I don't trust cheaper make up on my face like foundation and powder because my skin is so bad so I opted for a lipstick, nail polish and blush.

Lipstick: Brighton Rock
Blush: Demure
Nail Polish: Gone Fishing

I loved the bright pigment in the lipstick and it had great staying power. The blush was fab and has a little built in puff applicator just like my YSL one which was 3 times the price so this is a product I would recommend. My favourite product was the polish, it only needed 2 coats to build up a solid colour. Even though the colour is a little odd I got some compliments on it in work. I am going back to buy a few new colours in the week!

This is what the products look like on... (cue awkward face photos)

These are the flowers that my brother bought for my mam last Sunday and they are still going strong, aren't they lovely?!

Hope you are having a lovely sunny Sunday wherever you are

Criminal

I'm continuing with Britney songs as titles, the album isn't as good as Blackout but I still lover her. This is what I wore to the Islwyn Labour Youth social on Sunday. It's a bit dressed up for the pub but I wore it with a cardi and I want to wear all my nice dresses before they get too big :)

Is it just me or are my eyes a bit wonky here? this was taken post wine consumption though...

Dress: Evans
Belt: Peacocks
Hair clip: H&M
Shoes: Primark

I got the shoes on my Saturday after work shopping trip, I only went for a browse and ended up with 5 pairs of shoes, a belt and some Topshop makeup... oops. I'm loving the shoes, they were only £10 and they are very comfy. The belt was bargain for £3 in Peacocks too.

Thanks for all your lovely comments after my moan about having to move in my last post. I went to look at a house today that needs a lot of work but it's next to a very pretty church, I'm feeling a lot more positive about moving from my lovely home now. All good things come to an end etc

I post on Where Are My Knees? earlier today about the importance of eating a good breakfast and posted a recipe and a diet plan comparison last week if you missed it.

Hope you all had a good start to your week

Keep on dancing 'till the world ends

It's been a bit of a rubbish week for me. My parents are divorced and the house has been up for sale for a while and it has finally sold. I've lived here since I was 11 and I'm not looking forward to moving. We have about 8 weeks to find somewhere new to live and move in, scary stuff!

I've spent a fortune this week, probably trying to spend my feelings away haha...

I needed some new powder and I couldn't resist the Clinique gift time. I bought my usual powder and some skin care products and got a lovely tin full of goodies including some mascara, moisturiser, face soap and eye shadows. I have really bad skin and I used to take Isotretinoin for it. I stopped my treatment last year and now a few spots have started to come back. I drink plenty of water and get enough fruit and veg so there is nothing I can do there but I bought two products from the Clinique counter which I hope will help. One is to treat spots and the other, is to stop scarring.

Do you use any skin care products that you would recommend?

Also.. Happy Mothers Day!

I hope you are having a great day with your loved ones.
xx
