It's Britney Bitch

After a rather lovely evening at the Cosmo Blog Awards I was joined in London the next day by my brother and some friends and we all headed down to the O2 to see Britney Spears. Anyone who knows me or who follows me in twitter knows I'm a huge Britney fan, She's not my guilty pleasure, I don't care who knows! Team Brit 4 life etc etc...
I had already seen Britney twice before this but I was excited to see her perform songs off her new album. I've seen a few reviews in the press slating her performance but I thought she was great. I've seen other people like Katy Perry perform and they sing live and it sounds awful and they don't dance at all, just walk up and down the stage. Brit sang live on this tour and put on a really good show. 'LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE' haha... Highlights from the set were Toxic and Up and Down but I would love to see her perform Break the Ice which is my fave Britney song.

”Britney

My brothers badge
”Britney

I thought Britney looked amazing!
”Britney

I wore all Dorothy Perkins that night (I don't buy all my stuff from there honestly!) I got this dress in the 25% off sale and I love it, bargain for £22.
”lace,

I was rather exhausted after two late nights so I took my brother to the British Museum the next day for a stroll around. I can't believe that I've never been before, I always end up going to the V&A. Loved the Egyptian and Greek parts but I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that everything was just stolen from Egypt and Greece!

I went to the Laduree shop in Covent Garden before I got the coach home and splurged on a box of lovely macaroons and ate them all before I could take a photo, so lovely!

Carried on my lovely week by going to see the ballet on Saturday and Patrick Wolf last night. Can't remember the last time I had such a fun filled week.

Been to any amazing shows lately? I'm seeing Los Campesinos! next week but I've not got anything booked up after that, I'm on the lookout for things to see and do!

Cosmo Blog Awards

I'm a little late with my Cosmo blog awards post because I have been in London for three days and I was useless and took about 5 photos so I've pinched a few from the Cosmo site and the Miss Guided facebook page. I want to say a big thank you to everyone who voted for  Where Are My Knees, I was so happy with our 'highly commended' I don't feel like we have been writing it for that long and we aren't that established. So happy that people enjoy reading about our experiences. The blog really has helped me with my 50lb loss, I couldn't have done it without all your encouragement!  I love those photobooth pictures of me and the WAMK girls, I went back to the booth about seven times.

The full list of winners in all the categories can be found here

This is what I wore to the event-

No glitter or sequins for me but I got this fab dress from Evans in the Sienna Couture range, my bag is from Miss Selfridge and I wore plain black court shoes from New Look.

Me and Caroline

Lovely Lyzi in a gorgeous vintage dress.

All my lovely K West roomies! One of the best parts of the night was having a good old natter in the hotel in our pj's. Doesn't everyone look glam?

The cupcakes at the awards and Sarah's cupcakes ( Sarah's were way nicer ;) I ate one for breakfast the next day!) Diet went completely off the rails the past three days but you need to go mad sometimes.

Thanks again to everyone who voted and thank you to everyone who came to say hi at the event, it was lovely to meet you all!

Guest Post - Rhiannon's Sale Shopping Guide

I am in currently in London watching Britney Spears (aaaargh so excited) so I have a fab guest post for you all from the lovely Rhiannon, enjoy....
Helloooo! My name is Rhiannon, I run a blog called Vintage Extraordinaire. I love all things floral, old and 90% of topshop’s stock (you have to admit that some things they have are just WEIRD).

These are my best tips for shopping in the sales. Earlier this week, when I received an email about the ASOS and the Topshop sales, I let out a little squee of approval. My flatmate barged into my room - “HAVE YOU HEARD?! It is saaaaale season!” and we did a little celebratory dance. I know this sounds pretty sad and materialistic, but we go to a fashion uni, we have very little else to live for.
I have to admit, I’m pretty good at sale shopping. I found my prom dress in the Topshop Sale for £30 (down from £75), I’ve bought countless pairs of jeans, dresses and shoes. I love it. How do you manage this, I hear you cry? All you need is a lot of time, a decent sale, patience and hardly any social life! Haha, but seriously though, I cannot stress the importance of patience. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen people flicking through the rails only to give up because it’s too annoying. Because to be fair it is annoying, being shoved and pushed and elbowed and watching someone grab something that you had your eye on. It’s awful actually, isn’t it?

Anyway, here are my top tips for scouring the sales!
  • Go early! This is quite obvious, really. There’ll be way less people and you’ll have more peace and quiet to go through the rails.
  • Eat! Not that I need an excuse to eat, of course. But you really do need energy if you’re going to be constantly on your feet and browsing.
  • Be well equipped. I always take a shoulder bag with me when I’m sale shopping, because I need both arms free to rummage.
  • Look everywhere. There are usually ‘tall’, or ‘petite’ concessions in the store - have a look in their section too! They’re always more empty and they might have some hidden gems. In the past I’ve found cardis and tops in the tall section that would work even if you’re petite like me. Also, some stores arrange their sale stock via size - do NOT just look in your size section! people often pick things up and change their minds and plonk them down again in a random place (I do, allll the time!)
  • Seriously, everywhere! In the past I’ve found some really gorgeous blouses in the maternity section of sales. I know! They’re also usually in the same styles as the non-pregnancy range so people will be none the wiser. Plus, you can always cut out the tags if you’re that embarrassed.
  • Try everything on. I know, I know, the queues during the sales are always really hellish and long, but it will seriously save you time in the long-run by not having to return badly-thought out items.
  • Don’t be silly! I don’t know how many times I’ve looked through my wardrobe only to find some disasters hanging there with tags still on, stickered with ‘half price’ and ‘reduced!’ tags. Don’t buy something just because it's cheap! Look for classics (jeans, plain tees, classicly cut dresses) rather than ‘trendy’ things (harem pants, logo tees, weird prints...)
Happy Shopping, lovelies!

I I I Wanna Go o o

I know I've already told you all this but I'm really excited.... I'm off to London tomorrow! Seeing Britney on her Femme Fatale tour and hanging out with my brother and some of our friends. Definitely going to Laduree for some sweet treats and doing some sight seeing.

Tomorrow I'm going to be staying with the very lovely - Lauren, Lily, Sarah, Olivia, and Lyzi. I've met my fellow Where Are My Knees? member Sarah and Lily before at the Birmingham Meet Up and Lyzi at the Bristol Meet Up so I'm not too nervous about the whole thing.

Here is a little sneak peak of what I'm wearing tomorrow night-

Thank you to anyone who nominated Where Are My Knees? and voted for it I really appreciate it. I've got a guest post for you whilst I'm away. I will be tweeting loads (as always) at the awards and when I'm in London and you can follow me here.

Back in a few days!
xx

P.S. My giveaway ends on the 31st so there is still time to enter here.

South Wales Blogger Meet Up - The Night

After hitting the shops we all headed to the management suite in St David's to meet the other girls who were attending the evening part of the event. There were so many super nice and fashionable ladies in one reception area! The suite was full with lovely clothes and items from Paperchase, G Star, Mango, New Look, Kurt Geiger, Radley, La Senza, Boux Avenue, Monsoon, Select and a few others.

All the lovely clothes, I think the Monsoon and Peacocks rails were my favourite.

Some lovely cosy looks from GAP.
Boux Avenue created this lovely display and everyone got a hand cream from them in their gift bag.

The team that put it all together including me and Chantelle, St David's and Golley Slater PR.
(What is up with my face?!)

Reiss, G Star and La Senza all gave talks about the inspiration behind their new collections and a history of the brand. The team from Kamigata showed us how to create a vintage hair look for the party season.

Lots of lovely Krispy Kreme's which went down very well with all the bloggers. We drew a raffle at the end of all the talks and the girls got some fab prizes which included Matalan vouchers and gift bags and Rose Tinted Vintage goodies.

After the event we all headed over to O'Neills on St Mary's Street for a fab buffet (amazing sausages) and a few drinks. I was really relieved this point that everyone was chatting and seemed to be having a good time.

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came, helped to organise and promote the event. Chantelle was amazing and I think we made a good team :)

I hope everyone who came had a fab time and when I have recovered I will start to think about the next meet up. Have you been to any fabulous events recently?

If there aren't any events in your area like this, why not plan your own?! I always moaned about events being in London but since organising this one lots of people were keen to do another one in Cardiff.

South Wales Blogger Meet Up - The Day

I'm going to split the event in to the day and evening parts because I met so many lovely girls and it was such a busy day I don't think I can cram it all in to one post!

I barely slept the night before the meet up, I kept on making lists in my head and thinking of things that I should have done. I only have a few dresses that still fit me at the moment so I didn't have to think too hard about what to wear. I wore my red lace dress with flats, scarf and a cardi to make is casual for the day and added some red lippy and took off the cardi and scarf in the night for a more glam look.

I met up with my partner in crime Chantelle to pack the goodie bags before the event and when I saw how big the room was I was a little daunted and started to worry about people not turning up.
I met Rosie , Rai, and Melanie at the train station and we all headed to BB's Coffee and Muffins which has the nicest interior of any coffee shop in Cardiff city centre. We met Chantelle, Sarah, Lowri, Amy, Kate Lousie and Louise.

Everything  in BB's is black, white and pink with a hit of lime, there is loads of glitter and comfy chairs. So much nicer then all the boring Starbuck's interiors. We all tucked in to some tasty muffins (I chose blueberry) and I was very jealous of some of the girls hot chocolate which came with marshmallows mmm! All the muffins are baked in store that day and mine was still warm, best I've had for a long time.

We were in BB's for nearly 2 hours just chatting away, mainly about the fact that leggings must not be worn as trousers (it's jsut wrong!) and then headed off for some shopping in the arcades and Urban Outfitters. It was a cheap day out for me, I only bought powder but Lowri went a bit mad in UO and got a gorgeous cardi, can't wait to see what she puts it with.

I started to get lots of messages around 5.45pm asking where to meet for the evening event and panic started to set in again. I wondered what the St David's team had done with the room since I left them at 3pm and if everyone was going to turn it. I was not disappointed....

Part 2 later coming later in the week!

P.S. if you posted about the event please let me know, I want to snoop at all of your lovely photos :)

South Wales Blogger Meet Up - Attendees

This is the first of many posts to come one the South Wales Blogger Meet Up because I have so many people to thanks and lots of great photos. Just briefly want to thank everyone for coming, I had the best time ever. I feel like I didn't get the chance to speak to everyone  properly so we will have to have another meet up to rectify this ;) I'm so tired today, I now realise how hard the girls who organised the fab Birmingham meet up and the equally delightful Bristol Meet Up had to work. I wish I could snooze all weekend but I have work.

A few of you asked me for a list of all the attendees and their blogs so I thought I would do this post first. I know I'm missing a few so if you don't see your name here let me know and I will add it!

How to choose a budget bed

When it comes to buying major piece of furniture, and particularly when it comes to buying a new bed, it’s important to invest in the best quality bed you can afford.

It’s well known that a poor quality mattress can adversely affect the quality of your sleep in a significant way, which can then have a knock on effect on all sorts of health problems, stress levels and even depression.

If you wake up with a bad back or aches and pains most mornings, or you have a medical condition that means you need firm support from your mattress then it could be time to consider investing in a new bed.

It’s tempting to look for the cheapest bed and mattress you can find, and there are plenty of online stores that will list cheap furniture for sale. You could also go to somewhere like Freecycle and take your chances on a second hand bed, however, this isn’t recommended as the mattress could be just as bad as the one you are looking to replace!

The first thing to consider is the kind of bed you would like. Do you have room for a King Size? It’s best to get the biggest you can find, as the more space you have to sleep in, the more likely it is you will be comfortable and feel supported, whether you’re sleeping alone or with a partner. Then you need to find out which kind of mattress you need, it’s best to do some research at this point and find the brand that best suits you.

Websites like Bedstar.co.uk have a variety of beds, mattresses and sofa beds, at the best possible prices without compromising on quality. Their strength is in their prices and their range and they have a lot of the high quality beds, whether you’re looking for a metal framed bed, a wooden framed bed, just a mattress or a divan bed, in stock so can offer very fast and secure delivery.

The most important consideration is the quality you can afford. With a site like Bedstar.co.uk you can be sure that you are not compromising quality for price - it gives you the opportunity to buy a budget bed online and know that you are still getting the best possible bed for your money. That’s peace of mind when it comes to such a major purchase and with such a confusing choice online and in stores to choose from.

So if you’ve done your research and you know the brand you want, or perhaps you have a bed brand that you already favour because someone has recommended it or you have used their products before, you can shop with confidence at Bedstar, as the big brands, lowest prices guarantee means you don’t have to worry that you are making the wrong choice.

Once you have decided on your bed, the delivery options are clearly displayed, making it easy for you to not only purchase your new bed online, but also have it delivered direct to your door with the minimum of fuss. It’s about making the bed shopping experience convenient, easy, simple and reliable - guaranteed peace of mind!

Wedding Belles

My friends Sarah and Adam got married on Wednesday and it was such a lovely day. I have known the couple since the age of 16 and they are an unconventional pair who suit each other perfectly.

I have been looking forward to the day for ages and I bought my dress from Monsoon months ago. Me and all my friends went to get our make up done in the morning in MAC and Illamasqua, I had a little 'moment' because I thought my make up made me look like a drag queen but we were running so late I didn't have time to change it. Sorry for the hissy fit girls (if you are reading this).

We got to Tredegar House just in time for the ceremony and the building was gorgeous. I can't believe I have never visited before because it is pretty close to my house.

Doesn't it look grand?
Sarah's son Jonathan stopped the ceremony to take photos 'CHEESE MUMMY! photos!' cutest thing ever.

Loved the detail on Sarah's dress and she had lovely wedding shoes too, which were flat sho she could dance in them all night.

 Heart shaped Welsh cakes mmmm

Picked up this dress in the Monsoon sale for £28, I didn't manage to get a nice shot of my outfit with my bag and shoes because as soon as we stepped outside for photos it started to rain, total nightmare.

Love this photo of me and all the girls :) All the best/horrendous photos were taken on disposable cameras and my instant camera. Can't wait to get them developed.
Here is one of my instax shots-

I can't wait to get home tonight, put my PJ's on and watch a bit of TV. Working 12-9.30 and attending the wedding have really tired me out. I'm feeling old now, all the new students coming in the library are 18 and my friends are getting married and having kids. Scary stuff.

Have you been up to anything special this week? Have you got any funny wedding stories?

Reviews and October

Phew another manic week for me, it's lovely to be sitting down with a cup of tea! I wanted to share a few reviews of things I have been trying out recently. I don't do reviews often but I love all of these things so I wanted to rave about them

Browns - Cardiff

I went to Browns in Cardiff after a afternoon of traipsing around Cardiff with my friend Emma and helping her to spend her student loan. We wanted to go somewhere nice to rest our feet and grab a light bite to eat and we decided on Browns because I knew they did an afternoon tea.
The interior or Browns is lovely and much slicker than some chains, the perfect place to relax in the city centre. Emma and I shared an afternoon tea for two and it was only £10.95. For this price I wasn't expecting anything too special but it was lovely. We got a mixture of salmon and cucumber sandwiches, warm scones with clotted cream and jam and  a selection of cakes. Everything was very tasty and my only gripe was that they didn't have sweetener for my tea (why was I worrying about calories after eating clotted cream?)

I would highly recommend Browns to anyone who wanted somewhere to go in the city centre for afternoon tea. I really want to try the Hilton next. Anyone know anywhere else that does afternoon tea in Cardiff?

Here are the three products that I have fallen in love with recently-

The Frizz Ease 3 day straight spray is amazing, you spray it into damp hair, blow dry and style as normal and your hair stays sleek all day and until you wash it again. I love this product, it is light and doesn't make your hair greasy at all. I picked it up in Boots for about £6 and it is going to be something I use a lot. People have commented on my hair looking lovely with this product in so it is a winner.

I have used the Urban Decay Primer Potion before but I prefer the new packaging. The old design had an applicator which I think is unhygienic so I'm loving the makeover. I also bought the Complexion Primer which has a lovely consistency and sinks in to the skin really well. The make up sits on top nicely and it helps your make up to last a bit longer and spread evenly.

I'm really excited about my October, the South Wales Blogger Meet Up is on the 12th of October and I bought some name stickers for it, I loved the ones that we all had at the Birmingham Blogger Meet Up so I scoured eBay for them. I have no idea what to wear yet, got a feeling it will be a lovely day.

I'm also going to see the ballet, Britney and Patrick Wolf at the end of thus month. All in the same week! My tastes are rather varied aren't they?!

What have you been loving recently and what are you going to be doing in October?
xx
