Not on the highstreet brings together over 2,500 independent small UK businesses that sell over 45,000 products. it's like etsy but a little more uniform in postage prices and return policy because you buy through one checkout rather than from the individual seller. Each business has been chosen by based on style, quality and originality.

I was given a budget of £50 to spend on the site and I was excited to get a nice print for my bedroom as I knew that sold some lovely and unique homeware. When I took a good look at the website I was suprised to find out that they also sell clothes.

Here is what I chose:

The dress is by a brand called Rise who I had not heard of before but I've now got my eyes on a few of their pretty last and embellished dresses. The dress fits wonderfully and the lace is soft and not scratchy at all. It's a lovely light dress even with a jersey slip underneath. It was delivered very quickly and arrived wrapped in lovely pink tissue paper. There are some great dresses on the site with a vintage feel, plenty of tea dresses and 50s shapes, all perfect for a special occasion.

I paired the dress with my trusty Topshop biker jacket and daisystreet allegra style boots.

My final pick was a print which I hope to get framed for my bedroom. I'm a huge Ben Whishaw fan and I adored the film he starred in called Bright Star about the poet John Keats. The film prompted me to read his poetry and I'm now more than a little in love. There are so many gorgeous prints to chose from on the site and lots of them can be customised to make great gifts or remind you of a special day.

I think cuts out a lot of the hard work for you as it searches for the best sellers to include on their site and they have so many products available. Do you try and buy from independent retailers?

À bout de souffle

I never know what to wear to work when it's warm outside. I always wear black tights and something to cover my arms but sometimes it's just too warm. I picked up this dress in Peacocks a few months ago and this is the first time I've worn it. It's long enough to wear without tights but I feel a little on show on my top half.I added the belt which I picked up in a pack of three from Primark and my favourite shoes from Tuk. Not entirely sure that it is work appropriate or totally flattering yet.

I'm rather excited because I booked a trip to Paris in September! I have only booked the Eurostar so far and wanted some of your advice on where to stay. Have you ever stayed at a budget hotel or hostel in Paris? I would love to hear some of your recommendations.

I picked up these guides on sale in WH Smith and worked myself up into a frenzy about where to go and what to see. I'm going for three days so I can fit quite a lot in. I'm planning on eating lots of lovely macarons, visiting the Louvre(free for people under 26 on Friday nights) and hanging around in Shakespeare and Company. I'm going to frolic around like I'm in À bout de souffle, I can't wait!

Are you enjoying the sun or planning a summer getaway?

p.s. there is a giveaway running on Where Are My Knees and I'm selling clothes size 16-22 on eBay for Paris funds.

A/W wishlist

I think you will notice a theme with all of the items on my A/W wishlist... I'm more than a little obsessed with anything black at the moment and if it has studs on it then it will be making its way into my wardrobe. A/W trends are usually far too sparkly for me but this very rock and roll studded trend is just up my street. I'm looking forward to mixing it with velvet and possibly a military style jacket in khaki but I'm going to be avoiding roll neck jumpers and padded/quilted items, yuk!
aw 2012 bowler hat, studded bag, cross bracelet

The t-shirt is a Orphan's Arms design which you can buy on ASOS or through their own site. I want to thank Caroline for introducing me to the brand through her blog, really can't get enough of them. I think the witch design is perfect for autumn and I was a kid who was obsessed by witches, I used to get in trouble for adding water to plant pots and stirring dirt in and pretending it was my cauldron. I always wanted to go to Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches too... The hat is another ASOS buy, I've never really worn a hat before so I might need to try this one on. The bag and bracelet are real budget finds. The bag is only £8 in Select and the bracelet is about £3 in F21.

aw 2012 black, leather, topshop zip up dress

I've been on the lookout for the perfect winter shoes that I can wear to work or on a night out and I think these Blink ankle boots are just the right pair. They are real leather and will be really long lasting, can't wait to get my hands on these.
I wasn't entirely sold on the pleated Primark pleather skirt that lots of people have, I think it would stick out on me and I like my skirts quite long so I'm tempted by this Select one. It's £15 but I would get 15% off with my UniDays discount which makes it a bargain. The dress is from Topshop and is under £30, I love the zip detail and I will be getting this for nights out and paring it with some studded shoes and red lippy for a splash of colour.

Are you looking forward to Autumn/Winter fashion or are you hoping for an Indian Summer?

Phew, it's been a pretty busy week for me so far. It was my brothers 21st on Monday and we went for a big family meal to celebrate. I ate waaay too much ice cream and driving home over speedbumps after the meal was not pleasant. I wanted to get my brother something special for his birthday but he was far more practical so I gave him money for his MOT, so boring right? I did make him a funny birthday card in the style of OK magazine with embarrassing photos on.

Penblwydd Hapus Geraint!!

My brother is a huge Nicki Minaj fan so we got him a Nicki cake which had lots of neon sprinkles down the side and we managed to eat it all in about four days. Best cake ever mmm. My brother Geraint tweeted Nicki a photo of the cake and she said happy birthday which meant that over a thousand Nicki fans have now wished him a happy birthday and the notifications on his phone are never ending!

I went to London on Tuedsday to see Madonna on her MDNA tour in Hyde Park. LMFAO were the support act and my eyes were ever so slightly offended by all the zebra print and neon but they were very fun. Madonna's set was very entertaining and mixed lots of acting and dancing. She can seriously move for someone over fifty, so flexible. Must be all that yoga! She ran around with a revolver pretending to shoot ex lovers, groped her toyboy and flashed her behind. Pretty much what I was expecting from Madonna. I would have loved to have heard a few more classic hits but this was the MDNA tour and not a greatest hits tour so I can't really complain. Were any of you there? What did you think?

I went to The Delauney for breakfast the next day and there was such a lovely atmosphere in there. I went to the slightly less formal counter section and had some lovely English Breakfast tea and a bagel but you can get some lovely granola and pastries. Well worth a visit and I may pop back for the afternoon tea. I love people watching in London, I was sat in a cafe in Soho and saw Mark Gatiss and Masood's brother from Eastenders. Good minor celeb spotting there!

I didn't wear anything fancy to Madonna because it was in a field and it was boiling hot and raining so I wore my new Topshop t-shirt and denim shorts.

f21, converse, denim shorts

The t-shirt is a little see through but I quite like that and it will be coming to Reading festival with me and I'm going to get it in the black too. I wore my new F21 earrings which I'm in love with, they are big enough to make a statement but aren't too heavy.

I will be spending this weekend having a big lie in and taking my brother out to paint the town red for his 21st, can't wait!

Casino Royale

Lots of A/W lines are starting to arrive in stores and I'm getting rather excited by all of the sequin and gem embellishments that I'm seeing. I never really need an excuse to dress up and I know I'm going to enjoy a night out in sequins sashaying around like I'm one of those casino movies. Hopefully I will look like a Bond girl and not someone from The Hangover...

Here are some of my top picks for a fancy night out at a casino or exclusive bar -

TFNC London (reminds me of mermaids...)

This simple black dress is very classic and will always be in style but I would add a touch of sparkle with a fun clutch from designerdesirables and some ASOS shimmer twin lashes.
and finally...
I think I would wear this lovely Topshop cami with a black pencil skirt and tux jacket. I love how over the top this is, you might blind someone in a club if you wear this with all the gems twinkling!

Not sure if I could play casino games as anything with numbers baffles me and card games more complicated than spoons confuse me (used to play this game with plastic forks in the college canteen) but I know I will enjoy wearing sequins next season.

Lancaster Will Rise Again

Wore this to CDFblogs on Monday which is rather casual for me. It was a science bloggers special which might sound dull but scientists are very funny, who knew?! You can see all the photos from the event here. If you're from Cardiff or the surrounding areas you should definitely come to these events. You meet some great people and there is usually a free drink and inane/nervous chatter from me :)

I love this skirt but I'm never sure what to wear with it other than my plain black vest top and t-shirt, any ideas?

Skirt: New Look
T-Shirt: Orphan's Arms

I picked up these bracelets in the F21 sale, they came in a pack of three and were only 99p, bargain!

studded braclet

Looking a little chipped now but this is Models Own - Champagne with this eBay glitter polish on the top.Really need to spend some time on my nails, what a mess. Having a girly sleepover on Saturday so I will get the nail file and cuticle cream out.

Having a quiet week and trying to save some pennies because it is my mum and brothers birthday on the weekend and my brother is turning 21! I have the presents and cards sorted but I'm taking my brother out next week and drinks will be on big sis Gemma. Looking forward to all the cake and birthday meals!

I had such a blast this weekend! I got to spend time with lots of lovely ladies that I met at the Birmingham Bloggers meet up last year and a few more. It was like a big reunion but with lots of food and cocktails.I was completly rubbish as usual and only took three photos on my digital camera. I always do this at events and meet ups.

We went for lunch in GBK and it was very tasty, I will be going back to the Cardiff branch soon.

burger gbk

We all went back to our hotel and got ready, me and Sarah got into bed and watched Come Dine with Me and had a cup of tea, ha! I'm such an old lady. After some drinks in the hotel we headed to Wetherspoons for some cheap cocktails.

We moved onto Snobs to dance to listen to some indie tunes and dance the night away. You have to love a club that will play Morrissey, clubs only ever play The Smiths so it's my new favourite place.

snobs birmingham

This sign made me chuckle.

I really like cocktails!

I took my instax camera out with me and managed to get some lovely shots, it can be really hit and miss with cameras like these. There are ahassle to scan in but I think they are worth it.

♥ Barbour

After umming and ahhing over what waterproof coat to buy for the past few weeks I finally made my decision. I went for the Barbour Beadham Waxed Jacket. I looked at cheaper waxed jackets and more sporty waterproof coats but I kept on coming back to the Beadham.
I was so excited when it arrived and put it on straight away. Its is nice and light with enough room to put some layers underneath in winter. I don't think I'm a typical Barbour customer but I love the quality and fit of the item and can't wait to wear it.

I love the fact that the coat was handmade in the UK and Barbour 'remains true to its core values as a family business which espouses the unique values of the British Countryside and brings the qualities of wit, grit and glamour to its beautifully functional clothing.' I think this jacket will be with me for a very long time, such a classic item.

Quick post today as I'm off to see lots of my favourite people at #bloggersinbrum. Its going to rain all weekend so I can wear my new coat and stay dry :)

Right, I'm FED UP! Can it stop raining now please? Can't go out without getting soaked, I constantly have a cold and can't take photos in the garden. Moan over. I have used this bad weather as an excuse to buy a waterproof coat which I'm very excited about but more about that in a later post...

I've had a busy week going out for a friends birthday, seeing Kate Nash (who thinks its the 90s and is all riot grrl now) and going to the gym. I also had to say goodbye to the last of my friends who were studying in Cardiff for a year. They really have made the past year amazing and a special mention goes out to Julien who I am going to miss loads. I will think of you whenever I hear the song Primadonna!

#1 French!

This is what I'm wearing to work today, I managed to pick the skirt up in the Internacionale sale with a pencil skirt for only a tenner because sale items were buy one get one free, bargain. Went sales shopping yesterday and picked up a few things. The sales are actually good this year, lots of denim shorts, blazers and pretty party dresses. Not the usual weird or damaged things the shops put out.

(Please excuse the lack of skirting board etc STILL renovating the house)

Skirt: Internacionale
T-shirt: eBay
Cardigan: H&M
Shoes: flat shoes, TUK c/o Spartoo
Earrings: New Look
Ring: Accessorize
Turquoise Ring

I'm off to Birmingham this weekend for shopping and cocktails, can't wait to get out of Cardiff for a couple of days. Got any tips for places to get cocktails and a hangover fry up?
p.s. there is a cdfblogs meet up on Monday, register and come along!
