Oh whatever makes her happy on a Saturday night

I always get dolled up for a night out but never take any photos, only really show you work outfits on here so I took a few snaps before I headed out on Saturday night. I wore my new favourite dress from ASOS, had a few too many vodka diet cokes and danced to some dirty pop.

Dress: ASOS
Cardigan: Evans
Necklace: Vivienne Westwood
Bracelet: eBay
Lipstick: Topshop, Innocent

As I mentioned in my last post I was on the panel at cardiffblogs this Wednesday. I was answering questions about blogging along with some of my favourite Cardiff bloggers. I was really nervous but I think it went well, I spoke about blogging etiquette, getting your blog noticed and engaging with the blogging community. If you live in Cardiff or the South West you really should pop along to one of these events. I'm going along to the planning meeting for the next event and will let you know the details for the next one as soon as possible, would love to see some more fashion/beauty bloggers there!

Grey Topshop Midi Dress

I bought this really basic grey dress from Topshop yesterday and I'm really excited to start wearing it. I think I will get a lot of wear out of this dress. It was a little pricey at £29 for a jersey dress but I tried on the H&M and Dorothy Perkins equivalents and they just did not look as good. I went for the midi length which is a little scary because I don't own anything else this length. (also first time I've been able to shop in Topshop for about 5 years, big step for me. Had to try five things on to make sure I really did fit in a 16)

I have come up with a few ideas of how to wear this dress, let me know what you think and how you would style it!

I thought this would be a good way to wear the dress to work. The black jacket means it is smart enough for meetings, the satchel is big enough for my diary, lunch and paperwork and the shoes are a fun colour. I'm loving the neon colours in stores at the moment and I think introducing them in accessories is a good way to include them in your outfit without looking like a lollipop lady!

This is more of a weekend/gig look, I ordered this jacket today from the Topshop website. It had a lot of good reviews so I hope it doesn't disappoint. I'm still obsessed with leopard print so this scarf was a natural choice, I have leopard print everything else so I've got a feeling that I will be adding this to my collection. I thought these Dr Martens, floral embossed boots from Spartoo would be the right shoes to create a early 90s look. I'm in love with everything from that era and wish I was born a few years earlier so I could have seen all my favourite bands play (before they had a reunion in their 40s)

I think this is how I will wear the dress in summer on my days off, pulled in at the waist with a nice brown leather belt and with sandals. I am on the lookout for a really nice denim jacket in my local charity shops at the moment, I want a light cropped one. I haven't owned a denim jacked since the dark double denim days of my early teens, they still remind me of B*Witched! I think the bag and necklace are really cute and spring/summer like. Most of my bags are black so this Ted Baker one would make a nice change.

p.s. I will be doing a post about Cardiff events on the weekend so if you are organising anything please let me know and I will include it.

Precious Time

I have had another busy week spent with my lovely friends and family. This is what I've been up to...

I made lots of heart decorations for our Valentines 'Love Your Libraries' day at Cardiff University. We got the students to tell us what they love about the library on heart post it notes and on twitter. I got carried away with it all and made so heart shaped bunting too.
I went to see The Woman in Black with my friends for Valentines day and scoffed loads of sweets and swapped cards. Have you seen it? I was so scared, I had to watch it through my fingers.

Been up in the attic digging out old clothes. I'm pretty skint at the moment and I want to try and wear more of my old clothes rather than wasting money on new ones. Don't think this is really my style but it was comfy and smart enough for work. I picked up the blouse in Peacocks in the sale a few years ago and forgot all about it. I delved into my jewellery box and found my Vivienne Westwood necklace that I forgot all about. I have so much stuff, I really don't need to spend for a while.

I got these little earrings on eBay along with 4 other pairs and paid about £6 for the lot, bargain! I got the ring in my Cosmo Awards bag but I have no idea who made it, anyone got any ideas? Would love to buy another one.

The brow kit was another eBay and only cost about £2.50. I have trouble finding powders dark enough but this is a lovely shade. The No7 lipstick is from the Vital Brights range and is a great everyday shade. It is really sheer, lightweight and doesn't dry your lips out. I bought it with one of those £5 off vouchers that you always seem to get in Boots and I've worn it everyday. Will be buying another one of these as I think they are limited edition. I stayed at a friends last night and made us this lentil, peppers and feta salad, it really was the nicest thing I've had in ages so I will put the recipe up on Where Are My Knees in the week.

I wore this to my friends house last night. The skirt was only £8 in Primark and I love it, I'm pretty obsessed with leopard print at the moment but I do feel a little over dressed and Kat Slater in it.

What have you been up to this week? I suspect most of you had lovely Valentines plans or up to something fabulous at LFW!

Downtime

I've really enjoyed my week off from the Internet and blogging. I broke my phone this week and I've been cut off from everything but I think it was just what I needed. I've been racing through loads of books, done some work on my room and had some great times with my friends. I think I'm a little too hooked to reading blogs and chatting on twitter, I have had such a productive week without it all!

This week I have been....

Reading This Sceptred Isle, I did History at university which now seems like such a long time ago. I haven't read any non fiction for ages so this makes a nice change. I might review this book for Judging Covers as I've not posted there for a while. I think the whole debate about what it means to be British is quite fitting for a year when we are hosting the Olympics and I am really enjoying it.
My Clash of Kings book finally arrived, I loved Game of Thrones so much I was desperate to get my hands on the next book. Have you read this series? I highly recommend these books, so many great characters to love and loathe.
I picked up the Anne Rice book in my local charity shop for 20p and it has been sitting on my shelf for months so I thought I would take it to work to read on my lunch breaks. It is another great read and I'm alternating between all three of these books at the moment.

My room is really starting to take shape now and all of these things are new editions to my room. I have been looking for a light and headboard for ages, trying to source some great vintage/antique ones but they were all so expensive so I settled on these ones from Next. I got the throw from Ikea and it is very soft and light, hope my dog doesn't steal this one like she did with the last one.

I got tickets to see Madonna play Hyde Park this summer, really excited about this. I can't say I'm one of her adoring fans but I think it will be a lovely day out with my friends and she has an amazing back catalogue.

I will be on the panel answering questions about blogging at the next cdfblogs event, I recently joined the team so I will be helping to organise the events in the future.
'We want this meet up to be as helpful as possible for you all to kick start your 2012 blogging, whether it be starting a brand new blog, or just revamping your existing one, so be sure to check out the panel's blogs and have your questions at the ready!
The meetup will be at The Maldron Hotel on Saint Mary Street, which is right next to the bus station and central train station. There's free Wi-Fi, so tweeting during the event is encouraged (just try to keep it clean, please!) The hashtag is #cdfblogs.
The main event will begin 6:30pm with the speakers starting at 7.00pm but if you can't make it for 6:30pm don't worry, just turn up whenever you can, we'll still be very happy to see you.'

I've also had a lovely weekend with my partner in crime Emma Dudley drinking way too much wine. My motto this weekend was ' If you don't remember it, it didn't happen'

What have you all been enjoying this week? Have a missed any amazing blog posts?
xx

Rose Tinted

I'm really enjoying everything at the moment. Been spending lots of quality time with friends and family, been enjoying wild nights out and getting stuck into my new role at work. It has all been rather busy so I have been savouring my days off and using them to catch up on reading. I used to read loads but then blogging happened! I felt like I never had a minute spare so getting back into reading has really helped me relax after work. I am slowly working my way through the Song of Fire and Ice series and I picked up a copy of The Vampire Lestat in a charity shop so I am also reading that as a break from Game of Thrones.

I had a day off on Tuesday which always means going to WW class, cooking lots of meals for the rest of the week and lounging about. This is what I wore:

I bought these lovely boots on eBay for just £12.99, they seem to be sold out now but there are lots of other sellers on there. I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to walk in them because I never wear heels but I have been wearing them to work and they are very comfy. Money well spent!

I picked up my new coat from the lovely Rose Tinted girls who wrote a guest post for me at the In Aid of Vintage fair on Sunday, at £20 I think it was a bargain. My friend spotted it and knew that I would love the animal print collar. If you don't live in Cardiff you can also buy from them online and I think they sell on ASOS too.

Just because I can... some photos of me playing with Sookie.

Look at her little ears swooshing around, she reminds me of Dobby but of course she is much prettier ;)

So glad I bought a new coat because it is -5 in South Wales at the moment, I even have a hot water bottle with me in work. I really hope it doesn't snow this weekend as I'm heading to Plus London Two.
How are you going to be spending this cold weekend? If I wasn't going to London I would be on the sofa with loads of layers, a cup of tea and a good film.
