Fat Frocks Wears Trousers

It's been a busy and fun week, been doing IT support in work so turning things off and on again  ;) Going to Southampton and taking part in a Fashion Show. Can't wait for a lie in tomorrow!

This outfit is top to toe New Look. I've had the dress for years and it is nice and light so I wore it to weigh in on Tuesday. No heavy belts on the scales for me. Do you like my Britney poster in the background? So cool...

No, you are not seeing things. I AM wearing trousers. Total shocker, I bought them for Where's Wally fancy dress but it seemed a shame not to wear them again so I paired them with my Topshop biker jacket and a Peacocks floaty top. The jeans are a little baggy on the leg but they were about £12 for Peacocks so I can't complain really. I'm wearing my Topshop Innocent lipstick.

I picked this ring up in Afflecks when I was in Manchester a few weeks ago, I wear it practically everyday. So nice to have a real silver ring so it doesn't tarnish. I wanted a turquoise ring but I though this was a little different.

Me in my Where's Wally fancy dress, it was boiling in the club so that hat come off straight away. Had a great night in Southampton dancing to cheesy music and drinking alcopops. Like being 17 all over again.

Yesterday was such a fun day! I got to walk the St David's Fashion Show catwalk with these three lovely ladies, get pampered in Kamigata and loiter around some handsome male models. I was also given some gift vouchers to spend in the centre which I know will get blown in all the sales that are on at the moment. There was a lovely atmosphere in St David's yesterday and the team put on a really good show.

Some real models from the show looking very glam. No idea how they do it, I was so scared and didn't even have to walk in super high heels like them.

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend as much as I enjoyed mine!

New Look - Dress review

I've always been a huge New Look fan. I used to spend hours in my tiny local branch on a Saturday trying all the 915 range on, saving up my pocket money to get a new t-shirt or a dress for the school disco. New Look also provided me with great dresses on a budget for nights out in uni and I now get all my wide fit shoes for work from there. I really have grown up with New Look and have always found that they make clothes that are a wearable interpretation of catwalk trends.

I was allowed to pick any dress from New Look to review and it took me a few weeks to decide, I'm so indecisive! I know I wont stop going on about her but I'm pretty obsessed with Marina and the Diamonds at the moment. I wanted a dress to wear when I see her in May so I eventually went with this Limited Edition Two Tone dress as I think it's very Electra Heart. I used the click and collect service which meant I ordered online and collected the item in store and avoided the delivery charge, great idea!

I was going to wear the dress with flats and a cardigan but it is rather special so I paired it with some low heels, biker jacket to toughen it up and some pastel blue shades to compliments the other soft colours.

I even put my hair up in a bun and I never wear my hair up.

The dress looked lovely with a few buttons undone but I decided to wear it buttoned all the way up with a necklace that my nan gave me as a present. I kept the accessories simple to go with the simple dress, doesn't need to much added to it because it is such a statement dress.

I love this dress, the material is lovely and it feels very special on. It does gape around the underarms slightly and is tight on the waist so you might want to size up but I am very pleased with my pick. This dress retails for £34.99 which I think is very reasonable, I'm sure Topshop would price something similar for about £60.

How would you style this dress? Are you a fan of New Look dresses?

Reading Festival

I know it's a little early but I'm really excited about going to Reading festival this year! I have already been a few times before but some of my best friends are coming this time and quite a few of my favourite bands are on the line up so I'm getting a little carried away. I'm a little skint this year so I took advantage of the fact that you can pay for your tickets in instalments and I will be looking to wear things I already have. I don't really go on holidays, I'm more of a weekend break girl so I will allow myself a few new things to take with me as a treat. Most people have two weeks in the sun right? I can have a weekend in a muddy field with a nice new bag.

I'm going to be looking for my festival essentials nice and early so I can pick things up in the sales or when there are discount codes rather than the week before when wellies and rainproof jackets are a nightmare to get hold of.

reading festival, topshop midi dress, biker jacket, wellies

Shoes: Giesswein Wellington boots these are nice and plain, patterned ones bug me because they wont match the rest of my outfit... I left my last pair of wellies at Reading because I was too hungover and tired to carry them home so now I have to get a new pair.
Jacket & Dress: Topshop. I already own both of these and need to get more wear out of them before they get to big so these are definitely coming with  me.

topshop shirt, burts bees, maccbees

Shirt: Topshop, this is great to wear on it's own and to layer up in the night when the temperature drops.
Moisturiser: Great all in one product and has spf in case we are blessed with some sun. Saves you carrying around two different products.
I always end up buying a band t-shirt from the merch stall at Reading and my favourite band The Maccabees are playing so I'm guessing I will get one of theirs. I always end up coming home with more things than I went with, there are some great Oxfam vintage goodies to find there too.

zatchel, denim shorts, reading festival

Bag: I'm on the lookout for a really nice bag to take to Reading that I can wipe clean. This Zatchels one is the perfect size for a bit of cash, lip balm and stage times. £40 is a bit expensive but these bags are handmade in the UK and are made from leather so will last for years.
T-shirt: I love everything on The Orphan's Arms shop and I hope this t-shirt makes its way to the festival with me. They sell them on ASOS so I'm holding out for a discount code.
Shorts: Denim shorts are always a must for me when it comes to festivals. You can wear them more than once and they wont get ruined in the mud. Perfect!

Are you going to any festivals this year? Got any tips for bands I should see at Reading?

P.S. selling a few bits over on ebay in sizes 16-22

May the odds ever be in your favour

What have I been up to the past week? Taking advantage of the 3 for 2 in Boots, listening to Marina and the Diamonds on repeat and catching up with old friends. Perfect!

I treated myself to some new products that had been recommended to me. The Real Techniques blush brush recommendation came courtesy of Caroline and I love it! I get a much better result by using this brush, a nice even sweep of colour and the brush doesn't break all my blush apart like my old cheapy one did. Well worth the tenner I paid for it.
I picked up the L'Oreal Super Liner on a bit of a whim, I went for golden black which has flecks of gold in it. It is easy to apply and comes with a little brush. Not tested to see if it stays on for 24 hours like the packaging says but it lasted pretty well.
Ultrabland from Lush has made a huge difference to my skin in the short time I have been using it. It gets rid of all the traces of make up on my face and has helped to sort out the dry patched around my nose and mouth. I think it is a tad pricey at £6 for the small tub and £10 for the bigger size but it does such a good job I will be buying this again when I run out.

real techniques, ultrabland, l'oreal

I gave in to the hype and bought a L'Oreal Caresse Lipstick in Sweet Berry. It doesn't have great staying power but leaves behind a nice tint. This shade is great for everyday wear and I have been wearing it to work, nice and subtle and doesn't dry out. I also bought the Super Liner Ultra Precision as an alternative to my Lancome Artliner. It's nice and dark and long lasting but it not as easy to apply or as black as my Lancome liner. It is half the price though and money is tight at the moment so I will be using all of it and trying not to cave in and spend so much on high end make up.

caresse, l'oreal, liquid eyeliner

I went to the cinema on Wednesday to finally see The Hunger Games which I loved. Quite true to the books and rather fun/teen not too much to think about, I also love Peeta now and am making loads of bread/camouflage based puns about him. I wore my Topshop midi dress, Topshop jacket and Missguided scarf to the cinema, really need to wear my midi more, it's so comfy and easy to throw on. I also rediscovered my F21 arrowhead earrings that I forgot all about and have been wearing them a lot the past week.

I've had a horrid migraine for a few days so I've been at home sleeping and watching Buffy in my Sunnydale t-shirt to make it better but managed to see my friends on Saturday and drink a few pomegranate vodkas mmmm!

Manchester - I wanna be adored

I had a wonderful bank holiday weekend in the city of Manchester with my friend Emma and celebrating two of my best friends birthdays in Cardiff. Happy Birthday Sarah and Laura! Here are some of my photos from my trip to Manchester...

manchester 1

Books and booze, bank holiday essentials.

Manchester 2

I went to Manchester Museum where I looked at all the minerals, the John Rylands library (bit of a busman's holiday) and for a dance in 42nd Street.

manchester 3

I really enjoyed the People's History Museum, there were a few mentions of south Wales Chartist and socialist past which I loved and there was a strong focus on labour history and women's involvement in it. Well worth a visit if you are in Manchester.

manchester 4

The next day was a much more girly affair and I went for afternoon tea at Sugar Junction, I chose a gorgeous Jubilee tea with a hint of citrus and it was served with a lemon cupcake, selection of sandwiches, tarts and fudge. Yum! We explored the city and I did some shopping and got a lovely ring from Afflecks. I had a great time in Manchester and after my third visit I know where I like to hang out and how to get around. You are so lucky if you are from Manchester, it is such a wonderful city. I love the feeling of the place, the accent and the people. Really hope to have another trip there in the summer and possibly pop to Liverpool and Sheffield too.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, back to work now *sigh*

Instax

Just wanted to share some of my recent instax photos with you. I bought my camera last year, used it on hols and forgot all about it but I have made an effort to take it out with me recently. I love how you are never sure what you will get and a lot of the photos are truly awful but where is the fun in editing them?

Hope you are all having a lovely Easter weekend!

Idealo Spring Dress Challenge

When I was offered the chance to take part in the Idealo Spring Dress Challenge I was allowed to pick any dress that I thought summed up Spring. I looked at pastels, the tribal prints and sports luxe trends that are on the high street at the moment and they really aren't for me. I don't have a Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter wardrobe. I live in south Wales so we don't really have a summer... I like to wear my dresses all year round but add more layers and black tights for winter.

I eventually decided to go with this dress from Monsoon-

I thought the frills and floral design made it Spring like and feminine. I think this is a very classic dress that I will be able to wear all year round rather than a passing trend. I'm not quite brave enough to go completely bare legged so I popped some nude tights on and paired the dress with the heels I bought for a wedding last year.

monsoon dress

Sookie just returned from her walk and wanted a photo but she doesn't look too impressed.

navy blue heels

monsoon wrap dress, floral dress

I think this dress would also be great for my days off with my red pumps, black tights and a cardi or with a blazer and satchel for work.

What would your dream Spring dress be?
